Car Shopping

mazda3

I can’t believe the day has finally come where I’ll no longer be driving my Mazda 3. I got my first car from my grandparents when I graduated from high school 10 years ago! In my teenage state of mind, I was loving the movie Daredevil and the poor sequel Elektra and thought it was a good idea to name my car just that….Elektra. Ha! My first car just went over the 100,000 mile mark last year and has slowly had things start to go wrong with her.

Eric and I had discussed that once he graduated in December, we’d probably start looking at small SUV’s that would be appropriate for kids in the future, etc but this weekend our game plan got bumped up a bit. My car has started giving me issues. Randomly, on right or left turns the whole stereo shuts off, restarts and I lose my power steering so I literally have to muscle my car into a turn. I took Elektra into the shop and found out it would cost upwards of $2,500 to get her fixed and even then it wasn’t guaranteed to be a perfect fix.

So, now….we’re car shopping! I’m a little nervous. I know it will be so different driving an SUV instead of a car and I don’t love big changes. But, I know once we’re out shopping tomorrow, I’ll get excited. We plan to look at everything from the Kia Sorrento to the Lexus RX350.

Do you drive an SUV? If so, what kind? I’d love to get any and all feedback.

We have the 2014 Nissan Pathfinder (purchased in March of last year) and we LOVE it! We had a 2006 Pathfinder and never had a major issue with it, and got over 200,000 miles on it! The 2014 is much more “luxury” than the previous model years and so far, we are in LOVE with it! It drives like a dream and has a ton of room!

Oooops, It is the 2013, not the 2014….sorry!

OMG I had to drive for a bit without power steering and it’s HORRIBLE! I feel for ya! My first car died two years ago now and it was so sad. I only had it for about 5 years (but we did travel the country together). I love having my own car that I chose and I’m responsible for, but when my car died, I was so panicked to get a new one that I rushed my decision process and bought a car I’m not in love with. I’ve been window shopping new cars the whole time I’ve had the one I drive now, so my only advise is choose wisely and take your time! 🙂

The new RAV4 is wonderful. If you buy a good manufacturer, the car should last long past 100,000 miles. Good luck!

I drive a 2006 Hyundai Tucson. I love it! It has 89k miles on it and I’ve never had any issues with it. My next car will probably be a Nissan xterra because the tucson is just slightly too small for me (but I’m weird that way). I think the Kia/Hyundai SUV’s are a great size, great price, and they’re supposedly really safe, too! Good luck!

We will be SUV shopping soon also! I’m leaning toward a Ford Edge/Explorer, or a Jeep Grand Cherokee! Good luck!

Hope you get a good car! I wish I could upgrade mine now, but all in due time.
